This thing is sweet! I just saw it for sale at an Orvis outlet for $5,400.

Boston

14Aug08

I’ve had a pretty nice trip so far. First went to Vermont and got some good soda and cheese. Then onto New Hampshire to camp at Lake Umbagog. Just yesterday I was in Freeport Maine hanging around at the L. L. Beans store. And today I’m in Boston. So far it has been a lot of fun. I went to the Cheesecake Factory and the new Apple store last night and right now I’m going to the aquarium. It’s been a long trip, and I’m actually looking forward to getting back home, but it’s still a lot of fun. 6 days left.

Driving

02Aug08

Today is the second day of the long two day drive. Yesterday wasn’t bad. It was a total of 12 hours of travel. We stopped at McDonald’s for breakfast and Wendy’s for Lunch. I was mostly sleeping or on my iPhone. It’s a good thing I have a car charger! Yesterday we also got stuck in traffic for a bit near Erie. We got to my aunt and uncle’s around 5 and got some dinner. Then we went for a long walk and went to bed. This morning, at about 5:45, we got back in the car and started another long drive. This one is at least a lot shorter. According to the GPS we should be in Vermont at 3. Only 6 hours left!!

Vacation

01Aug08

Tomorrow I leave for my long trip. I leave at 3:00 because we need to dodge Chicago traffic. That means I should probably be asleep right now but I’m not. Well… uhhh…. good night.

The iPhone 3G launch was huge. But more importantly was the new App Store. This was an amazing launch because it affected not only shiny new iPhone 3G owners, but also owners of the iPod Touch and the old iPhone. The App Store has been out for just over 2 weeks and it already has over 1,000 applications.

I have used the App Store the whole time, watching it grow day by day. The App Store is great, but everything comes with it’s own issues. The first big problem is the amount of crap. I really think that Apple should monitor what goes into the App Store and filter out the junk. Out of the 1,000 applications just a few of them are of good quality. Even less are amazing. And over 100 are digital books. Some great developers are still waiting for Apple to even allow them to become an iPhone developer. Another large problem has been Apple’s speed. The time it takes from submission to actually being on the App Store seems quite random.

Even with all it’s problems the App Store is still a huge success. I have downloaded some amazing applications in the last 2 weeks. These has made my iPhone more useful than I could ever imagine. When I first heard of the iPhone it already sounded amazing. But just watching the application demos was just as exciting. Now that it has finally been released it’s better than ever. Congratulations.
